Burning the Daze, Marc Cohn's third album, finally appeared in the spring of 1998, nearly five years after the release of his second, Rainy Season. Although he was out of the spotlight for many years, he didn't use his sabbatical to explore new music. Essentially, Burning the Daze follows the same musical pattern as his first two albums -- it's adult contemporary pop with slight folk and country influences. Cohn tends to polish his productions a little too much, which lessens the melodic impact of the songs somewhat. Still, there are a number of solid songs here, plus contributions from such artists as Patti Griffin, T-Bone Wolk, Kevin Smith and Rosanne Cash, that make the album worthwhile for fans.
